RAF Northolt Nightshoot XXVIIa held on the 13th October 2022
After a break of around 3 years due to Covid, the long running series of Nightshoots organised by Phil Dawe returns. This was number 27a in the series.
RAF Northolt Nightshoot XXVIIa, once again, attracted its usual large number of photographers and with the weather forecast improving from day to day it turned out to be pretty much ideal, even the moon appeared at one point during the evening.
There were a couple of cancellations from the early list of participants but those aircraft that did attend were very much appreciated. Aircraft that were present came from the Royal Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force, Irish Air Corps & the Army Air Corps, there were also a couple of civilian participants which definitely added to the event.
The Royal Air Force sent one of their Airbus A400M Atlas aircraft from RAF Brize Norton, this aircraft arrived shortly after the event started, it was great seeing the aircraft taxy in under the floodlights. The Royal Canadian Air Force sent one of their Lockheed Martin CC-130J Super Hercules aircraft which is currently based in Scotland. From the Irish Air Corps one of their brand new Pilatus PC-12's from 104 Squadron in 100th anniversary livery & from 7 Regiment Army Air Corps a Westland AH.1 Gazelle in BATUS livery. The two Civilian owned participants were Hawker Hurricane I R4118 UP-W which is currently based at White Waltham & Westland Whirlwind HAR.10 XJ729 from Historic Helicopters based at Chard.
A real bonus was most of the aircraft did engine runs or departed before the event finished so we were able to see nearly all the aircraft running at least at some point during the evening & long may this continue.
